Weather - Barcelona has mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers. January and February are the coldest months, averaging temperatures of 50 °F (10 °C). Snowfalls are very rare. July and August are the hottest months, averaging temperatures of 86 °F (30 °C).

Level of English - Poor - Few speak English.

Prices - Not too bad, about the same as UK.

Eating Out - Quite good but like the UK, not cheap to eat out.

Courtesy - Generally helpful and good matured. However, if you need information in the night, it will be rather difficult.

Driving - Little hectic but generally courteous. Good road system.

Public Transport - Buses do not run all the time with a high frequency. The daytime service is usually set between 5:30-6:00am to 10:30-11:00pm, with a frequency between 5-15 minutes. There is a bus service at night, but the frequency is not so high. Quite a good coastal rail service.

Places Of Interest/Attractions - Antoni Gaudi's architectural masterpiece, The Sagrada Familia church is located here, along with Barcelona Cathedral and several other impressive buildings. Barcelona tourist guide never a challenge with Barcelona Budget its true.

Other Remarks -
When it's closed in Spain, it's closed. Buses and public transport don't run very often at night. This leaves the playing field wide open for the licensed unscrupulous drivers in the taxis. The ranks of taxis seem to go on for ever and they keep strictly to the first one is the only one available so you can not even negotiate a price. Basically they will take most of your holiday money if you have more than a few kilometres to travel.

Barcelona Travel Tips - Making the Most of Public Transport

Barcelona has a public transport system that is an absolute delight for visitors to this spectacular city. Transportation in Barcelona is not a big task with Barcelona Budget. The totally integrated system allows you to get around cheaply and easily for 24 hours a day. The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona is the organisation which is responsible for co-ordinating not only the city's Metro and bus systems but also some tourist transportation services.

By far the quickest way to travel around the Catalan capital city is by the truly excellent Metro system, with an easy to follow colour-coded route map that comes as a blessed relief to those more used to trying to decipher London's underground maps. There are more than enough stations - you're never very far from one wherever your wanderings take you - and they are easily identifiable by the signs with the white letter M inside the red diamond. A single ride will cost you EUR2.15 (2014) - but, as we shall see later - there are some very good deals to be had.

The bus routes - and there are more than 100 lines across the city - may not be as quick as the Metro but they certainly offer an easy method of seeing the many architectural splendours - ranging from the bizarre Gaudi inspired architecture to the more classically inspired splendours the city can provide.

The bus stops are at red signs with benches underneath a small roof and all of the buses in Barcelona and Barcelona Spain Travel are wheelchair accessible, by having wheelchairs lifts. For late-nighters, Barcelona provides a comprehensive night service, the Nitbus, which operates until 5.30 in the morning and goes past most of the popular night venues - some can even take you straight to the airport.

You can pick up free maps showing all the city's bus and Metro lines - including the Nitbus - at tourist offices and Metro stations - and hotels often have them. The Tourist and Leisure Cards which offer significant savings on fares are available at TMB Customer Service centres, Metro stations, Newsagents, Tourist Information Offices and even at Lottery selling outlets. A two days card offering unlimited use costs EUR14.00, a three day card EUR20.00 and a five day EUR30.50 (prices for 2014) - and remember that they're valid for all the TMB services.

Of course, Barcelona also has its share of taxis for those who prefer this mode of transport or who have luggage they need to stow. Barcelona cabs are easily recognised by their black and yellow colouring and, of course, have the green light on the roof which indicates they are 'libre' - lliure in Catalan. If the light is white, then the taxi is unavailable for hire or occupied.

Currently (2014) there is a minimum fare of EUR2.10, with rates at EUR1.03 per kilometre or EUR1.23-EUR1.40 per kilometre at nights and weekends. Obviously you can expect surcharges for luggage, etc and, if you're looking to travel from the airport by cab, the minimum charge is EUR20.00, with EUR1 for every item of luggage.

With regard to taxis, it's as well to remember, though, that much of the centre of Barcelona is pedestrianised and allows access only to residents, so there are some places taxis cannot take you. Barcelona is considered, justifiably, one of Europe's most attractive destinations - combining, as it does, beach and city, ancient and modern, local and international. As befits such a venue, the public transport systems are in place to ensure that visitors can really make the most of there time there.

This valley is called the cava country since it is the biggest producer of Spanish champagne known as Cava. Barcelona on a Budget

Barcelona, Spain's second city is one of Europe's most visited cities. It is cosmopolitan, quirky and effortlessly cool, a charming mix of culture and modernity. The Catalan capital could easily be labeled the Continent's most livable and lovable city! Though not the easiest of cities for a traveler on a budget to negotiate, it is possible for the majority of Barcelona's most popular attractions to be seen without even a single euro changing hands.

Start with the famous Las Ramblas as your base. Since most of Barcelona's must visit sites are walking distance from here, you can draw up an itinerary while parked on one of the conveniently placed benches at Plaça Catalunya. Soak in flashes of Spanish life passing by in the square after you're done organizing your tour.

One of the first places to head to, is La Sagrada Familia. Work on this Roman Catholic basilica was started in 1882 and is still a work in progress. The final stone of Gaudi's unfinished work is scheduled to be laid in 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death. Though it is necessary to pay to enter the Sagrada Familia, many would agree that the church's beauty is best viewed from the exterior. So find a spot that's not crowded and admire Gaudi's creation without having to pay for it.

Another one of Gaudi's masterpieces, Parc Guell, has free admittance, while a small fee is charged for the monumental area. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, it takes hours to explore the natural and surreal beauty of this park. Gaudi has designed the park in such a way that it shows off Barcelona at its panoramic best from designated spots. Some museums in the city have a day every month when admission is free. Usually, the first Sunday of each month is the designated Open Day, but it is a good idea to check with our Barcelona travel guide since these days can vary.

Barcelona is a great city for free music concerts. At certain times of the year visitors will be spoilt for choice of live concerts. In September, Barcelona celebrates the weeklong La Merce festival. So if you're in town around that time, make sure you attend!. Sightseeing can be done for almost next to nothing in costs, but food and accommodation need a good accounting for in your travel budget. Here are a few tips on how to get by on a minimum amount.

Barcelona's popularity as a tourist destination means that it is sometimes difficult to find quality food at affordable prices in the city. A local favorite is Pollo Rico in Raval. This is both an affordable restaurant and a take away that caters to the hungry traveler without burning a hole in the pocket. If dining out is not an option, then a trip to the Boqueria food market on the Ramblas is a perfect solution. It will allow you to kill two birds with one stone - you'll get to visit one of Barcelona's top tourist attractions and at the same time get a reasonably priced meal of your choice.

The largest section of a travel budget is usually accommodation so it is better to stay at a hostel rather than a hotel. Apartment rentals are also very popular in Barcelona as they tend to work out cheaper than hotels. Your trip to Barcelona can be a success without making too much of a dent in the finances. All it takes is a little bit of imagination and you will manage touring the city and having a great time.

The author of this article loves to share his ideas about the visited tourist destinations around the world. In this article, he is discussing about travel to Barcelona on budget and and sharing his experience with Barcelona city guide.
